Markets do not sleep.  The UK market opens at 8am and as the day progresses, the US markets open around lunchtime and the Asian markets open up in the evening. Equally other countries do not share Bank Holiday days with the UK, so they can be having full trading days whilst the UK takes a day off.  Therefore most online financial spread betting firms offer extended trading hours on most instruments.
